LGBT Community Center of Central Iowa
Formed in 1984, the LGBT Community Center of Central Iowa serves as a center for the LGBT community to come for information on support groups, social groups and other activities associated within the community.

Capital City Pride
The annual Des Moines Pride celebration is held the second weekend of June every summer.  The celebration consists of a street party, parade, and a show of various community exhibitors and entertainers.  Capital City Pride’s mission is to “promote acceptance, tolerance, and understanding of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community through education, programming, and visibility.”

One Iowa
One Iowa is the state’s largest GLBT Equality organization.  Through lobbying, voter identification, grassroots efforts and educational events, One Iowa’s mission is to unite the GLBT Equality movement with the fair-minded elected officials responsible for change.

Women’s Cultural Collective
The Des Moines WCC is an Iowa women’s organization which seeks to promote community building and to provide a safe atmosphere for lesbians.  They invite all women to attend their activities and events.

First Friday Breakfast Club
An Iowan, educational, non-profit corporation for gay men who gather on the first Friday of every month to provide mutual support, to be educated on community affairs, and to further educate community opinion leaders with more positive images of gay men. Their resources page has a lot of great stuff that is Des Moines and Iowa specific!

Planned Parenthood of Greater Iowa
PPGI works to ensure that sexuality is understood as an essential, lifelong aspect of being human and that is it celebrated with respect, openness, and mutuality.  PPGI provides affordable health care and healthy sex education to all persons, regardless of gender, sex, or sexual orientation.

Parent, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG)
