Coming Out Week and Pride Week

The two biggest events Rainbow Union hosts every year are Coming Out Week (in the fall

  Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR)

Held in late November, this day is to remember and honor all those who were killed due toanti-transgender hatred or prejudice. The day is honored around the world in more than 250 cities. The first Transgender Day of Remembrance was organized in 1999 to honor the memory of Rita Hester, who was murdered on November 28th, 1998 in San Francisco.
  Day of Silence

Held in mid April every year, the official website (www.dayofsilence.org) states that the Day of Silence is a group of “concerned students, from middle school to college, take some form of a vow of silence to bring attention to the name-calling, bullying and harassment -- in effect, the silencing -- experienced by LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) students and their allies.” The movement began in 1996. The 2009 date for the Day of Silence is April 17.
