We are delighted to introduce you to the Greek side of life. Members of Drake's Fraternity and Sorority Life pride themselves on striving for academic success, leadership and involvement both on campus and throughout the Des Moines community.
Recruitment for Fraternity and Sorority Life is one of the largest events held by the Greek community. It's a great way for new and returning students to meet over 800 people during the first three weeks of school. Our members make up 27 percent of Drake's undergraduate student body and have majors ranging from business to theater.
Fraternity recruitment is a fun time with a laid-back atmosphere. We begin on Wednesday and Thursday with house tours, where those going through recruitment will be able to see all of the eight fraternity houses and meet some of their members. Friday and Saturday are less structured and you are able to go to any of the houses. This gives you the ability to really learn about each fraternity and its members. Sunday is the final day of recruitment where men receive bids to join. Each fraternity house will also provide food and beverages each night.
Sorority recruitment is a little different. It is a formal recruitment process and one of the most exciting times of the year. Women interested in joining a sorority will go through the four-day process. The first night will allow women to learn about all of the houses' philanthropies. The second night, the organizations will bring women through a tour of their houses and the third day is preference day. The final day of Recruitment is called Bid Day, where those women who have been matched up with a sorority through the mutual-selection process will receive formal invitations to join a sorority.
